CEDEC2004 CINEMATIC WAVELET LIGHTING
With recent rapid revolution of graphics hardware and programmable shader feature, global illumination techniques mainly used in the field of off-line rendering are starting to be used in real-time rendering environments such as 3D games and interactive applications. Especially, Precomputed Radiance Transfer, the paper published by Sloan et al. which was presented at SIGGRAPH 2002, showed great possibilities on real-time global illumination techniques. Moreover, at SIGGRAPH 2003, new real-time global illumination technique using wavelet transform was announced along with techniques to speed up PRT. In this paper we focus on the possibilities of wavelet transform. We show the result of recent real-time graphics research, implementing this wavelet technology.
